Married for almost 18 years and have two boys who are very active in school activities and sports. I have been employed as an Occupational Therapist in the school system for the past 24 years working with students with special needs.
Growing up my grandfather had a small coin collection and I remember on a couple of occasions being at my grandparent’s house in the morning before school and realizing that I forgot my “Milk Money” for school. My grandmother, not having any other money to give me, would go upstairs and take a Morgan Dollar out of my Grandfather’s canister of old coins to pay for my school milk for the week. Pretty sure my Grandfather never knew about this!
The face that my 1st Grade Teacher would make when I handed her the Morgan Dollar told me that they must be pretty special. Since then I have always been interested in collecting coins and silver and would look for Pre-1965 silver in my change.
About 10 years ago my Grandfather passed away and I inherited a couple Commemorative Sets from the 1980’s. After doing some research I realized that they weren’t particularly valuable but I stumbled upon American Silver Eagle (ASE) Proof Sets with the box and COA. That year I ended up getting a Red Book Guide of US Coins for Christmas and began collecting all of the ASE Proof Sets from 1986-2020 (except the hard to find and expensive 1995 W that was only available with the Gold Set).
Once I had completed the set I moved on to Morgan and Peace Dollars but a very short time later I was introduced to poured silver by one of my first friends in the Silver Community Andy Mettiller. I bought pieces from several different Pour Artists but the ones that I really gravitated to were Steven Lund from Reckless Metals, Marc Moos from Melted Mayhem, Rix Metal Worx and MSagan. I was actively hunting for poured silver pieces in several facebook groups when I came across a Vintage Crabtree Mint Bar Titled “Some Things Are Rare, Old Coins and Good Friends”. This bar struck a chord with me and I started bidding on it and won the bar! Just like that I was hooked and started looking for and collecting anything minted by Crabtree Mint, often leaning on Christopher Rodriguez for information. He would show me pictures of bars and give me information. Always patient and helpful. Eventually Chris encouraged me to join IASAC and buy a guide book (maybe he was getting a little tired of being my personal resource, 🙂).
I joined IASAC and that Christmas my wife and boys bought me the 5th Edition Kidd Guide Book and I have been addicted ever since. Always trying to find the “Rare Bar” while making many “Good Friends” along the way! Just like the first Vintage Crabtree Art Bar that I purchased……..
